Vähän on kiirettä ollut viime viikkoina ja jäänyt muutama juttu kirjoittamatta. Palataan ajassa ensin hiemaan taaksepäin ja English Laurelsiin finaaliin, joka juostiin 9. lokakuuta BelleVuen radalla. Barnfield On Air lähti ennakkosuosikkina rikkoen ensimmäisellä kierroksella RE:n ja parantaen sitä semifinaalissa. Finaaliin BOA joutui ykköskoppiin, josta koira ei ole ollut aina ihan parhaimmillaan. Se mahdollisesti koitui nytkin kohtaloksi, nimittäin BOA missasi lähdön pahasti ja sai töyssyä ykköskaarteessa. Finaalin voitti vahvalla juoksulla Kylegrove Top [Top Honcho x Bangor Shirley], joka on nähty aiemmin tänä vuonna mm. Skotlannin Derby finaalissa. Ei siis varsinaisesti voida puhua yllätysvoittajasta, kovanluokan kilpakoira ehdottomasti!

Seuraavaksi BOA siirtyy Coventryn radalle. Ohjelmassa siellä on keskiviikkona The Blue Square Cupin alkuerät 480m matkalta. BOA pitää hallussaan Coventryn kauden kärkiaikaa 29.00, joka on 0.11 sek RE:n perässä. Vastaan asettuu Fear Haribo [Larkhill Jo x Yamila Diaz], joka on trialin perusteella todellakin iskussa. 17. lokakuuta FH kellotti soolona 29.08 ja BOA 29.09. Fear Haribo on tämän vuoden Skotlannin Derby voittaja RE-ajalla.

Melkein saimme korkata kuohuvaa kasvattini Percyn (Ank Marvin) ansiosta. Jätkä nimittäin täräytti todella upean juoksun eilen Henlowssa 550m matkalla Open-lähdössä. Tämä oli ensimmäinen kerta näin "pitkällä" matkalla eikä se osoittautunut ongelmaksi, joten jännitimme ihan turhaan. Splittiaika kertoo kuitenkin Percyn ylivoimasta earlyn osalta lähdön muihin koiriin verrattuna. Karvastappio tuli vasta kalkkiviivoilla YHDEN sadasosan erolla takaa tulleeseen Sloganiin. Piru vie, ei se paljoa vaadi. Tätä tutkittiin sitten todella pitkään paikan päällä videolta tuomareiden toimesta, jotka eivät meinanneet saada tolkkua kuka kolmesta 2 sadasosan sisään maaliin tulleesta voitti. Voihan tuomio olla vääräkin ja Percy on oikeasti voittaja (tai se kolmanneksi tullut ), mutta ei tuolla merkitystä ole enää. Positiivista oli saada tietoon ihan näytön kautta, että yli 500 metriäkään ei ole liikaa tälle "sprintterille".

Percy on ensi viikon lomalla kisoista ja sitä seuraavalla viikolla juoksee todennäköisesti taas uudella radalla, jolla on kyllä vedetty harjoitusjuoksuja useampi etukäteen. Ohjelmassa tuolloin Open-lähtö 415m metrillä. Tulisiko vihdoin se voitto?

Potter Author Adopts Hound And Donates Magical £1000.

THE owner of a greyhound rescue centre was left spellbound after JK Rowling offered to rehome one of their dogs and handed over a cheque for £1000. Celia Fernie said she had no idea at first that the woman who arrived with her family to view the abandoned greyhounds was the Harry Potter creator. And she questioned the woman - who introduced herself by her married name of Mrs Jo Murray - on whether she could provide a loving home for a dog. She told how she agreed to allow "Mrs Murray" and her family to have the dog only after she provided photographic evidence that her home had a large garden - with a wall at least six feet high. Mrs Murray assured her she would be able to lavish the dog with constant love and attention because she "worked from home".

Celia, 61, runs Greyhound Rescue Fife in Kinghorn, with her retired lecturer husband, Jimmy,70. Rowling arrived at the centre with her husband, Edinburgh GP Neil, her three young children and the family’s pet dog-a-Jack Russell named Butch. The Fernies only realised who the famous visitor was after the family had chosen a four-year-old bitch named Sapphire.

Mrs Fernie asked the family for a £30 donation to meet the cost of the dog’s muzzle, lead, non-slip collar and vaccinations. But she was left stunned when the author - who is believed to be worth £545million - wrote a cheque for £1000 and signed it JK Rowling. Celia said: "When I looked at the amount written on the cheque, I couldn’t believe it. "Then I spotted her name and realised who it was. I just said, ‘Oh, I didn’t recognise you.’ She just smiled politely. "When I recovered, I asked her if she would send a couple of pictures of her and Sapphire for our website. "She said she would, and a few days later, three pictures arrived of Sapphire at her new home."

Celia told how the author had phoned days earlier to book an appointment to see abandoned dogs. When they arrived, the family walked around the stable block they use as a rescue centre, taking time to look at each greyhound. Celia said they seemed to fall in love with Sapphire after the dog made friends with Butch and the family. The centre owner added: "She had a lovely way with Sapphire - they all did. "Even before I knew who she was, I was sure she would be a much loved and spoiled dog."

Greyhound Rescue Fife, who rely on donations and volunteers, have rehomed more than 100 greyhounds since they were set up in 2005.
